COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to: Staff Director or Camp Director

  1. General Responsibilities
    1. Care for a cabin group of campers
    2. Participate in the Christian Formation Program
    3. Organize and Facilitate recreational activities
    4. Participate in staff orientation sessions, staff meetings, and evaluation sessions
  2. Specific Responsibilities
    1. Care for a cabin group
      1. Be a hospitable presence in the cabin
      2. Facilitate camper activities in getting to know one another
      3. Supervise and support campers in daily activities and cabin routines
      4. Be aware of campers health needs. Communicate with camp nurse as needed.
      5. Work in partnership with co-counselor in developing a friendly, fair and peaceful cabin atmosphere.
      6. Be open to leading or initiating evening sharing in the cabin and a sense of trust and openness to allow campers voices to be heard.
    2. Participate in the Christian Formation Programs
      1. During programs, actively participate and give full attention to the program facilitator and to watching the campers
      2. Model appropriate program participation for campers
      3. During program times, interact with and involve campers in activities
      4. Be aware of activity safety precautions. Alert staff leaders to any unsafe conditions.
      5. Assist activity leaders as needed.
    3. Organize and facilitate recreational activities.
      1. Take a turn(s) in co-organizing and facilitating daily field activities
      2. Take a turn(s) in co-organizing and facilitating all camp evening activities
    4. Participate in Staff Orientation, Meetings and Evaluation Sessions
      1. Be an active and prepared participant in orientation, meetings and evaluations.
      2. Share feedback about program, camp procedures and policies in positive, constructive ways.
  3. Qualifications
    1. At least 17 years of age. Some positions require someone 18 or older.
    2. Experience in caring for or mentoring youth and young adults 9 to 16 years of age
    3. Openness to participating in Christian worship and learning programs
