HEALTH OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Reports to:  Camp Director or Staff Director

  1. General Responsibilities
    1. Be Familiar with Camp goals and objectives
    2. Prepare and teach about first aid and blood borne pathogens to the staff during orientation.
    3. Assist in behavior management of campers at all times
    4. Promote camp spirit and positive youth development
  2. Specific Responsibilities
    1. Participate in Staff Orientation, Meetings and Evaluation Sessions
    2. Review camper, counselor, and adult staff health information and ongoing maintenance of health files during camp sessions.
    3. Maintain confidentiality regarding health information
    4. Maintain permanent records of health and first aid activities conducted by the Health Officer and/or other staff.
    5. Be present at camper registration to review health information with campers and their parents/ guardian, to interview and inspect each minor on arrival, to receive/label camper medications with instructions, and provide instructions/agreement for dispensing medications with appropriate campers.
    6. Maintain storage of all medications in locked storage.
    7. Check, maintain and store first aid and health supplies before camp and on an ongoing basis throughout camp including primary and secondary first aid kits.
    8. to notify appropriate staff member of any/all serious medical conditions of each minor they will be responsible for an to provide and monitor emergency supplies for all times the individual is off-site.
    9. Dispense minor’s medications as prescribed, administer other medications and first aid as per suggested medical standing orders, and as needed/required.
    10. Assist Director and Assistant Director in maintaining the overall health of all individuals attending camp including healthy living conditions and safety throughout the week.
    11. Encourage and maintain ongoing open communication with all camp attendees and coordinate communication with camp physician.
    12. Be in residence or on duty at all times during the camp program.
    13. Implement universal precautions.
    14. Provide staff with a working knowledge of universal precautions as well as appropriate use of any emergency medications, equipment, and/or treatments
    15. Be familiar with and follow standing orders.
  3. Qualifications
    1. At least 18 years of age.
    2. Be either a licensed physician, a registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse, a licensed emergency medial technician, a licensed medical first responder, or have a current Standard First Aid certification from American Red Cross or equivalent.
    3. Have current CPR certification from American Red Cross or equivalent.
