The Episcopal Diocese of the Great Lakes offers transformative programming experiences at Camp Chickagami (Presque Isle) and Stony Lake Camp (New Era) for young people, families, and adults.
You and your family are welcome here. As an Episcopal camp program, we strive to be a brave space where all campers belong. We celebrate and affirm diverse backgrounds, identities, beliefs, abilities, and family structures. We're also committed to removing barriers to access. Through generous partnerships with the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan and funding from the Episcopal Diocese of the Great Lakes, we provide free, safe, accessible transportation for each camp session.
Our overnight youth camp sessions combine classic camp fun with meaningful faith exploration. Campers swim, try archery, create art, and play games while building leadership skills, independence, and lifelong friendships. Each location offers unique experiences: Stony Lake Camp features high- and low-adventure courses, while Camp Chickagami offers field trips, including a Glass Bottom Boat tour and swimming at Ocqueoc Falls. Throughout the week, our Christian Formation team leads age-appropriate, engaging programs that help campers explore their faith and spirituality through shared experience and reflection.
For younger campers or those new to overnight camping, we also offer day camp at Camp Chickagami during overnight weeks. Day campers experience the same activities, programming, and community—swimming, archery, arts and crafts, adventure courses, and faith exploration—while being dropped off each morning and picked up each afternoon. It's an excellent introduction to camp for those not yet ready for an overnight experience.
Local Day Camp is offered for kids heading into 1st grade in the upcoming school year through 6th grade. Camp provides lunch and snacks. The day starts at 9:00 and ends at 4:00.
We’re excited to share a great new addition this year: We’ll have transportation to and from Alpena with convenient drop-off at 8:30 AM and pick-up at 4:30 PM daily!
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
- Weather permitting, we will swim every day!
Lunch and snacks ARE provided.
Depending on the number of campers we have participating will determine if our activities all take place with a large group of all ages or if we will break the group into smaller groups by age.
Additional information about registration, program structure, what's included, staffing & safety, making camp accessible, scholarships, inclusion, draft schedules, and an in-depth FAQ can be found on our website.
We hire a team of about 25 camp counselors each summer and are always looking to expand our team!
If you or someone you know is interested in working at camp this summer, we would welcome your application! If you have previously volunteered or worked with Camp Chickagami or Episcopal Youth Camp, we would love to have a conversation about you coming back to camp this summer without needing to make a full-summer commitment. All of our camp counselors are paid staff, unless they choose to volunteer their time.
